Dining at the Shogun Restaurant in Riyadh

30th June- A Thursday, My daughter Ann kept wishing me “AahPee to U” every now and then which was her version of “Happy Birthday to You!” Hubby was stuck up in office and I was over facebook replying to the warm greetings that kept pouring in that day. We had to keep the Birthday Cake waiting for its turn to be lit and sliced.

Finished a couple of pending house chores, had a quick lunch, saw a Movie and took a short nap - this pregnancy has been keeping me kind of drowsy. By Evening I was all set to go out for the Special dinner Hubby promised to take us to.

6:30pm no sign of him, 7:45 again no sign, and then my phone flashed around 8:30, it was him this time! The traditional birthday song was what he started off before I could say a word followed by the statement “Hurry up Darling, I’m waiting downstairs”. Fell for his smoothing words ~ he’s so good at it! The Impatient Birthday Cake stroked my mind then, and I had him come over upstairs instead. Made a wish, blew off the candle and enjoyed the yummilicious cake in a sprint! It was time for our Outing.

We squeezed in a plan of quick jewelry shopping and headed towards the gold market located in Batha – A wrong move to take on a weekend evening. We got ourselves stuck in this huge traffic and after an hour of impatient driving we decided to postpone the shopping and move on with dinner, had my tummy growling quiet loud by then.

Next question, where do we dine?? I thought he had this planned. But, no he left the suggestions open to me. I had been to Spazio, Chilis, Bufallo’s and a couple of other good restaurants earlier, and was not so keen on going to the usual one’s that day. Finally, a friend’s suggestion popped up his memory ~ Shogun Japanese Restaurant at Radisson Blu Hotel. Lord, this better be good! I thought for myself, I’ve never had Japanese Cuisine Before!

Venue: Radisson Blu Hotel, Riyadh (Click here to visit the Official Website)
Destination: Shogun’s Restaurant, 4th Floor
Hotel Reservations: call +966 (1) 479 1234

There we were at Hotel Radisson Blu by 10:30pm. Handed out our vehicle for Valet parking and moved in. This 5 Star Hotel acclaimed as one of the best hotels in Saudi Arabia was striking indeed! The interior decorations were a visual treat. Took the Elevator to the 4th Floor, I must say walking through the lobby itself was overwhelming.

Shogun had a squared water pool running right at the center in front of its entrance with pairs of couches and tables arranged on either side. Ann exclaimed: “WoOooww” and started running around besides the pool where she made friends with another kid. She was engaged and I was relaxed.

As we entered, I noticed that the dining tables looked quiet different. They had a griddle attached to it! My Spouse opted for Teppanyaki which refers to dishes cooked using an iron plate. He chose Veggies, Chicken, Beef, Vegetable fried rice and Saudi Champagne.

The champagne was served immediately. We raised our glasses for the happy moment, had our small talks and in a short while we were greeted by the Master Chef who came up with all the raw ingredients required for the order. What happened in the next 20 minutes was just amazing! The Chef had us dazzled with his cooking style right in front of us. He used the griddle that was attached to our table. It was a delight to watch him skillfully slice, dice the ingredients and juggle the salt and pepper. The Food was served and we enjoyed every bit of it.

We later moved on to the pool side table where I received my complimentary birthday cake along with a hot pot of green tea. It was just perfect! We drove back past midnight, and all we could think our way home was the great time we had together.

From now on Shogun is on my list for every special occasion. The service they offer is excellent! I give 5/5 stars and recommend it to all. The day was unlike any other birthday I had, felt great and enjoyed all the pampering. I thank my better half for making my day extra special :) The celebration continues…
